Description
This is a hand fabricated silver pendant featuring an Actinolite included (actinolated) Quartz from the world famous Calumet Iron mine in Chaffee County, CO. The stone was found by Ted Butterfield and was polished by hand here in our studio. The setting is made with .999 fine and .925 sterling silver, and was designed and fabricated from scratch in our studio in Conifer, CO! The back of the stone is polished and the setting is designed with an open back to highlight the incredible needles of Actinolite dispersed throughout. The high dome on the cabochon combine with the needle-like inclusions give this stone a cats-eye effect that really comes out in the sun and right lighting.
The Calumet Iron mine was one of the largest producers of Iron Ore in Colorado in the early 1900’s, supplying the famous CF&I Iron company. In the modern era it is famous for producing incredible specimens of Epidote, Quartz, Magnetite, and a unique actinolite mineral referred to as Uralite. Its uncommon to see a cabochon of this material used in jewelry! Butterfield Gems & Minerals works hard to curate special stones like this for our jewelry.
